Chapter 1425: Ji Ziming’s Heartfelt Confession

“Ziming, do you think these two clothes…” Qu Jingwan stood at the door with two knee-long dresses and saw them in bed in such an amorous position upon pushing the door open.

“You guys…” She pretended to be surprised by the view.

Pei Ge hurriedly pushed him away and got up, her cheeks red. “I’ll go take a look at An An and Ran Ran.”

She then quickly left the room and did not even look at the lady, treating her as though she were air.

In truth, this missy had come knocking at his door with an excuse to prevent such a thing from happening. She could not let her openly flirt with the man in front of her.

However, she did not expect for her arrival to be for naught, only serving as additional laughingstock.

“Why are you here?” Seeing that the mood was disrupted, the man coldly eyed the one standing at the door.

“I just came to ask you which of the two dresses look nicer.” She pretended to be aggrieved as she lowered her eyes, not daring to look at him.

“That has nothing to do with me!” He walked up and, with a bang, shut the door in her face, not bothering about her at all.

“You!” Faced with his attitude, she recalled her motive for coming to this house and could only set her emotions aside. Luckily, she achieved her goal and nothing happened between the two. Hence, she assuredly took her two dresses back to her room.

“Mommy, why are you only back now?” asked Ran Ran.

Pei Ge smiled at the three children sitting on the bed. “Why? Did you miss mommy?”

“Tell us a bedtime story today.”

“Okay. What do you want to hear?”

“I want to listen to Ugly Duckling.”

“I want to hear the Prince story.”

“Ping An, what do you want to hear?”

“I’m fine with anything.” answered Ji Chi. He had already given up, after correcting her numerous times, on telling her that that was not his name.

“Then, how about this? We’ll listen to Ugly Duckling today and then the others tomorrow?”

“Okay.” The three, cute children answered together.

“A long, long time ago, there was a little duckling. As it was too ugly, it was bullied by the little ducks around it. Her older brothers and sisters didn’t like her…”

When she reached the climax, the girl asked all sorts of unexpected questions. After the story ended, she happily gushed, “I think that the ugly duckling is a very beautiful swan. Mommy, am I right?”

“Yes, the ugly duckling is very beautiful.”

“Wow! Mommy, you know so many stories.” Her daughter was in awe of her knowing plenty of stories. “Mommy is so amazing.”

“Yes, you’re so amazing and know so much stuff,” chimed in An An.

Ji Chi, who was situated between the two children, could not help but feel something special inside him as he listened to his siblings praising their mother. This feeling was very familiar, as though it had happened before.

“It’s very nice,” he said.

The rock in Pei Ge’s heart finally dropped when she heard that. She had been worried about whether the boy liked her story or not since he had been quiet all along. Hence, she was finally relieved when he said that.

“I will continue telling you guys stories tomorrow, okay?” She smiled at them.

“Okay.” The cute children nodded, tucked themselves warmly under the blankets, and closed their eyes to go to sleep. “Good night, mommy.”

“Good night.” She softly switched off the table lamp and exited the room.

“Finished telling a story?” Ji Ziming, who had been leaning against the wall, asked when he saw her come out.

“Are you trying to scare me to death?” The woman nearly got a fright just as she closed the door when she heard his voice behind her.

“What are you doing? Standing here will easily frighten people, okay?” The lights of the chandelier hanging on the ceiling made the man’s features come alive as his handsomeness became clearer and more defined.

“I was waiting for you.”

“Wait for me? For what?”

“You’ll know if you come with me.”

“I don’t wanna go with you. I wanna go back to my room to sleep.” She ignored his ‘invitation’, feeling that he must be up to no good.

With her back facing him, she made a move toward her room. Alas, she had only taken a few steps when a strong arm lifted her up from the ground. Using the advantage of his height, the man easily lifted her up. He took a few steps before placing a finger on her lips and telling softly, “Be quiet.”

Pei Ge blinked her large, doe eyes and nodded.

Would she dare to be noisy at this point? If she were to make any noise and ended up awakening his mother and Qu Jingwan, she would be unable to explain herself.

The man led her to this villa’s backyard. He sat down on the chair on the patio and then patted the seat beside him. “Sit here.”

“Oh.” She went over unwillingly.

“Why did you bring me here?” Scanning the backyard and seeing that it was almost the same as it was during the day, she still could not understand what he was planning.

“Shhh. Look.” He pointed at the brightest star in the sky. “Look at that star.”

“Is there anything to it?” The star was very bright, but she did not know what he was getting at.

“Do you know how I survived after you left?” His voice was very low. The cold aura he emitted in the day was slowly making its departure just like white mist.

“I don’t.” She shook her head but felt her heart ache slightly.

“While you weren’t here, I’d look up in the sky, look at the stars. I was thinking that you’d definitely be able to see them, too. In this way, while I was looking at the same piece of sky that you were looking at, I would feel blissful.”

She sat there silently, listening to how much he missed her while she was gone.

“Even when the company was in a dire strait, I’d still do this. As long as I looked up at the stars, it was as though I were looking at you.” He turned to look at her, whose eyes were now shining and swimming with tears.

“What about you? Did you think of me while you were away?”

She did not know that there was someone who would miss her this dearly in this world. With his abilities, he had no need to worry about being unable to find her, yet he chose to trust her and waited in the same spot for her, with an eternal promise to be by her side.

“Yes.” She choked.

“Let’s go. I’ll bring you to look at that side.” He stood up and held her hand, guiding her to the other side of the garden.

“I planted a seed here, but it hasn’t sprouted yet. I did a lot of research, and it all said that this seed is already dead. Still, I wanted to let you know that, whether it’s truly dead, in my eyes, it’s still very much alive, just like how I trusted that you would return.”

There was a road lamp by the perimeter of the garden. Under its dim, golden hue, the two looked very amorous; his serious yet tender gaze was as bright and alive as the lights.
