Chapter 719: Burning a Profound Immortal
Goldy was at Rank 5. If all went well, he could advance to Rank 6 with the power of the Sky Furnace, officially activating his Golden Crow bloodline.
When that happens, Goldy’s strength would increase by at least tenfold.
Lin Jin looked grim.
Because through the blood ghost, he could distinctly sense that the ghost worms inside the body profound immortal were still alive.
What did that mean?
It meant the body profound immortal was still alive.
“What exactly is he? Why can’t he be burned to death?” Lin Jin felt his scalp prickle. The Sky Furnace was the strongest attack spell he could dish out so far.
The temperature inside the furnace could now compare to the sun.
If the body profound immortal could survive even this, Lin Jin had to renew his opinion of the physical body’s sturdiness attained through body ascension.
However, the more it was so, the more Lin Jin wanted to kill him.
Lin Jin reached into his Universe Pouch and pulled out a talisman.
The Vulcan Edict, one of the edicts he was most skilled in using.
He would add on any firepower he had at his disposal. Perhaps this tiny edict could be the last straw that broke the body profound immortal’s back.
He would use it.
Lin Jin invoked a spell with one hand, activating the Vulcan Edict, and then tossed it forward.
Crackle!
The furnace grew a size larger.
The current Sky Furnace could have destroyed any other thing in existence, even evaporating an entire ocean.
Even the grass at Lin Jin’s feet caught fire as the area around turned into a sea of blaze. Besides the ferocious flames, dazzling firelight, and unbearable heat, they couldn’t feel anything else.
Just then, Lin Jin suddenly noticed the disappearance of the ghost worms. They were burned to death.
This cheered him up slightly.
If the ghost worms hiding inside the body profound immortal were burned to death, that probably meant the death of the host as well.
Just to be sure, Lin Jin maintained the Sky Furnace a little longer before retracting it.
A deep and massive crater was left as a result. Everywhere around it was searing to the touch like the insides of a magma-filled volcano that had just finished erupting.
Dark smoke was everywhere. One couldn’t differentiate the black clouds from the fire smoke anymore at this point.
Lin Jin was exhausted. He had exerted every bit of energy he had left against this profound immortal. If the enemy faction sent one more profound immortal at him, he would be out of ideas.
Xiao Huo and Goldy darted over.
Being Rank 7, Xiao Huo was doing fine. And since he had the Dharma body to help his body convert into flames, he practically couldn’t die physically.
Also, phoenix fire was previously mixed into Xiao Huo’s flames, and phoenix flames were known to be able to help one achieve Nirvana.
In other words, even if Xiao Huo died, Lin Jin could bring him back to life.
As for Goldy, he had evolved just as Lin Jin expected.
The rooster now stood tall and proud. He had used the Sky Furnace to successfully refine his Golden Crow flames and evolve.
Such moments do exist. When the time was right and one was lucky enough, evolution could be as easy as poking a hole through a paper window.
Goldy had always been particularly lucky. Because even if he had a chance at evolution by borrowing the Sky Furnace’s flames, the success rate was only about thirty percent at most.
However, judging from past experiences, Goldy always managed to seize opportunities and evolve.
Now at Rank 6, Goldy could well stand against half immortals, perhaps even win against them.
Gaining a Rank 6 beast on his side absolutely delighted Lin Jin.
“There’s one other half immortal left. Go and search for him!” Lin Jin said.
Goldy understood him. He flapped his wings and went hunting for his prey.
Lin Jin looked into the distance. Although he had managed to eliminate the body profound immortal after using up his strength, the crisis wasn’t over yet. From the interrogation earlier, Lin Jin learned that the enemy had a formation inside this black cloud dome that allowed them to teleport immortals from the Hell’s Cage. If they didn’t destroy this formation, the Beast Deity Cult might continue to send immortals over.
Even if the enemy stopped coming, Lin Jin had to go over.
Now, both sides clearly despised the other and couldn’t wait to kill each other off. Out here in the open, Lin Jin was an easy target while the Beast Deity Cult and Patriarch Xue Pao remained hidden from sight. The enemy could even create this black cloud cell that concealed a person’s aura and the sky. It wouldn’t surprise Lin Jin if they suddenly launched a sneak attack. Leaving these people alive would only spell trouble for him.
Then, he heard Goldy’s crow.
Lin Jin immediately flew over. At the col up ahead, he saw the remains of a formation.
The formation was destroyed and the place looked like a mess. Still, Lin Jin found many magic tools that were mostly made of harrowing bones and over a dozen tins half as tall as him.
Most of these tins had been smashed with only one that still looked fine. Lin Jin approached it to get a closer look. Then, he frowned.
The tin was also filled with beast bones.
On the topic of formations, Lin Jin only had basic knowledge of them, nothing extensive. This array here clearly exceeded his comprehension range. And since it wasn’t related to beasts, the museum couldn’t clarify his confusion.
Goldy didn’t find the half immortal that escaped. The latter must have left through this formation, destroying it as he went.
The enemy was quite thorough.
But it made sense. Under that circumstance where only he survived out of the trio, that only proved he was clever enough.
Lin Jin looked up to find the black clouds above starting to dissipate on their own.
Since the enemy had undone the black clouds barrier, this must mean the end of this incident for now. The immortals of the Beast Deity Cult wouldn’t dare to come out here without the protection of their black barrier.
In a sense, the Rank 9 immortal devouring beast had now become the guardian of the mainlands.
Lin Jin was devastated by the sight around him. The radius of at least ten miles around him was completely ruined. Without a single plant in sight, the place looked like hell on earth. And not too long ago, this place was actually scenic and beautiful.
‘Perhaps it’s a good thing that the path of immortality is no more,’ Lin Jin suddenly thought for some reason.
To mortals, immortals were just too powerful. And so long as they were human, be it mortals or immortals, there would always be good and bad people. The good ones aside, one evil immortal was enough to cause great damage. If the Rank 9 immortal devouring beast didn’t exist, would humanity still thrive in the mainlands as it did now?
Next was cleaning up.
Fortunately, the army from Jade Dragon and Heavenly Spiral arrived in time, along with the visitors of the Visitation Hall.
These reinforcements were all formidable and reliable. With them around, Lin Jin could rest easier.
