Old Chess Master laughed miserably, then said, “Man’s plans are nothing in front of Godly intervention.” He rushed towards the Sky Prison King, Gao Peng, who had disguised himself as the butler, Jiao Shi, intending to die together with him in the impending explosion of the Forbidden Light Star.

The Sky Prison King, Gao Peng, however, reached out a hand and made a grabbing motion, binding Old Chess Master in mid-air. He smiled before retorting, “I am no longer the same person as I was six thousand years ago. Besides, if I hadn’t been exhausted from multiple battles, how could you have killed me with your level of strength back then? King of Chess, my old friend, I shall send you off first, I still have a mission and can’t accompany you.” Gao Peng then lightly shook his hand.

Old Chess Master was instantly flung backward.

By the time Old Chess Master was able to rush back and lay out his Thousand Chessboard Diagrams, the Sky Prison King, Gao Peng, had already turned into a shadow and disappeared into the Radiant Light Secret Passage.

“Sigh, I am too old…”

Old Chess Master grimly stopped his summoning, then bent down and slowly picked up the chess pieces that had scattered all over the floor. After that, he sat down again.

His six thousand years of guard duty was superficially to guard against the enemy, but at the same time, it was also a kind of self-imprisonment.

It was only now that his responsibility as a guard had truly left him.

It is only now that “freedom” belonged to him once again.

During these last moments of his life, although short, Old Chess Master was once again able to fully enjoy the feeling of playing chess. When he placed a piece on the board, a smile appeared on his face. He told himself, as if he was talking to someone else, “Finally, you can just relax and play chess. You, what do you have to regret? Although you are unable to prevent what is about to happen, you have done your best. In the next life, if you can be reborn in Tong Tian Tower that would be the greatest gift. ‘Blood Vomiting Spectrum’, how I wish to be able to fully learn everything about you…”

When he placed the pieces gently on the board, he found that the board had changed a bit.

“This? Is this my Supreme Will?”

At first, Old Chess Master was stunned, then he smiled bitterly. After recovering his freedom, after letting go of his responsibilities, during the last moments of his life, he had finally managed to comprehend and awaken his Supreme Will. What irony, what a cruel fate life had thrown at him.

Could it be that the responsibility of being a guardian for six thousand years had “imprisoned my own consciousness”?

~ Outside, above Sun Island ~

Yue Yang had already disappeared without a trace.

Regarding this strange young man’s departure, the Dark Realm fallen warriors also did not chase after him. Instead, they intensified their communication with their comrades in the Dark Realm.

Approximately 10,000 Quasi-Heaven Rankers and nearly 100 Heaven Rankers had joined forces to study the Dark Realm Passage that had existed for tens of thousands of years. They had successfully connected it to the Forbidden Light Dungeon before discovering the existence of all the experts that were sealed inside the Forbidden Light Dungeon, experts who quickly dispersed and began to flee. Even an idiot would know that Sun Island was a giant ticking time bomb that could explode at any moment. The power of the seal had reached the limit of what it could withstand. It had been weakened so much that countless peals of thunder could be heard and flashing lightning bolts were flying chaotically all over the place. Due to the failing power of the seal, the entirety of Sun Island was forcefully being shrunk. Once it reached its tipping point, it would release all its cooped up power, resulting in an unimaginably huge explosion.

“BOOOOOM!”

A deafening roar erupted and a huge mushroom cloud rose high into the sky. Space itself was distorted due to the massive explosion. Spatial cracks formed in the sky directly above where Rizhao City had been. These spatial cracks quickly grew in size, merged into each other, and eventually evolved into a huge black hole that devoured everything.

All the creatures that fell inside would never be reborn!

Due to being interconnected to the Dark Realm when the passage between both realms was destroyed, the realms overlapped, resulting in a mysterious and eerie phenomenon—the ground cracked!

The entirety of Sun Island had been split into two halves!

The space around Sun Island was incredibly unstable. Countless spatial fissures were opening and closing. When these spatial fissures rubbed against each other they generated tyrannical energy streams that would destroy anything that came into contact with them.

The sturdy city lord’s castle had crumbled. Except for the Radiant Light Secret Passage, the entirety of Sun Island was deformed and twisted. It was as if a pair of invisible demonic hands were wringing it.

The surrounding skies were packed with fleeing people. The majority of them were fleeing towards the far valleys, intent on escaping beyond the barrier of the canyons and mountain ranges. Meanwhile, a few panicked stragglers seemed to have lost all rational thought and flew, like blind flies, towards Sun Island. On Sun Island, the enormous, cross-shaped center avenue suddenly burst open. The huge opening shorty formed into something that looked like a ferocious monster’s giant maw, silently mocking the remaining survivors.

The historical Rizhao City, which had never fallen, the bastion which six thousand years ago had successfully broken the invasion of the rebels from Tong Tian Tower, had finally fallen today.

~ Minutes ago, inside the Radiant Light Secret Passage ~

Old Chess Master closed his eyes. His steady fingers gently lowered the last piece he had been holding in one of his hands.

Only ten seconds were left.

These would be the last ten seconds of his life.

Just as Old Chess Master’s face broke into a smile, when he was ready to die, he suddenly saw a young man coming out of the secret passage. Standing behind the young man was a group of ghostly guys. Many of them were old acquaintances of the Old Chess Master.

“Impossible!” Since he was about to die, Old Chess Master preferred to believe that this was all a hallucination.

“Although I can’t stop the explosion of the Forbidden Light Star device, I can delay it for three minutes,” the young man said. Three minutes is not much, not even enough to play a full game of chess, yet a lot can happen.” The young man who walked out in front of Old Chess Master was, of course, Yue Yang. The group of ghostly shadows behind him were the Tong Tian Tower warriors who had been sealed, as well as the remaining rebel leaders that had remained in Heaven Realm.

“So, it turns out, Gao Peng appeared just to cover for you.” Old Chess Master now understood the situation completely.

Why had the Sky Prison King, Gao Peng, come in and exposed his identity when he couldn’t stop the explosion? He wasn’t trying to show off in front of his old nemesis. Rather he did it to give this young man cover so that Old Chess Master wouldn’t notice him infiltrating the sealed underground dungeon.

When he saw the Sky Prison King, he was so shocked that his attention had been wholly focused on his old enemy, Gao Peng. He didn’t realize there was a young man who was saving prisoners right under his nose. This young man was the Prison Emperor of the younger generation. A young man that was even younger than the previous Prison Emperor, and also wiser, Yue Yang, who was walking past him at this moment, did not even spare him a glance.

Old Chess Master felt like a huge hammer was rhythmically hammering on his heart.

Defeated!

Again![1]

This time, he was not defeated by the invincible power of the previous Prison Emperor. He was defeated by the wisdom of this young man.

If the other party hadn’t taken the initiative and shown up, he was afraid he would have died without ever knowing that he had failed in carrying out his duties.

[1] EB: I think these are the thoughts that Old Chess Master feels are like rhythmic hammer blows timed to his heartbeat. It’s implied that these blows repeat, over and over.

(thump) Defeated! (thump) Again!
