Chapter 100 - Sucking up to a Powerful Person
Nine Star Burden
Chapter 100: Sucking up to a Powerful Person
Without the two Rules Awakened mercenaries, the battle ended quickly in an almost one-sided manner.
The soldiers quickly collected the battle loots and lugged the corpses away.
A few more soldiers dragged the corpses of the two headless Rules Awakened and the last guardian away, which were beside Jiang Xiao.
“After you enter the Nebula Stage, you can try using Star Power to shield you from the snowstorms,” Second Last said, sounding a little muffled because of the mask. She thought that Jiang Xiao was wriggling about because he was feeling cold.
Why does she seem… rather meticulous?
What is this? A reward?
Is she praising me for my performance?
At this moment, Jiang Xiao could indeed advance to the Nebula Stage immediately with just one Skill Point since he was in Level 9 of the Stardust Stage.
However, Jiang Xiao did not plan to do it right after Second Last spoke.
There was definitely something wrong.
Besides, Jiang Xiao had indeed advanced a little too quickly during the battle just now.
There was no cultivation at all and he managed to advance several levels using Skill Points…
Star Power and Star Technique levels were different.
After all, the Star Power level was linked to one’s physical fitness. When his Star Technique level was increased rapidly, Jiang Xiao would still advance in that field by leaps and bounds and all of his shortcomings would be made up for. The techniques would appear in his mind and get fused into his body.
Jiang Xiao prepared to look at the market prices. If necessary, he would spend a few Skill Points to advance his Dagger Mastery to Silver Quality.
For now, Jiang Xiao’s Green Glow was not strong enough for him to smash the skulls of the White Ghouls, but he could rip them apart using his dagger.
Jiang Xiao felt wonderful when he was acquiring the Skill Points and felt that he could afford to be more lavish.
However, he was rather tempted by Second Last’s suggestion for a moment.
Under normal circumstances, Jiang Xiao wouldn’t kill.
Hence, he had no choice but to obtain Skill Points by slaughtering creatures of other dimensions. However, it would still be difficult to do so.
Jiang Xiao was not a violent person and would never resort to such brutal acts because of some Skill Points.
However, it was right for the guardians to kill those who invaded China!
Jiang Xiao even felt that he could take the initiative to attack the enemies and invade their territory.
If he were to join the Guardians Of The Night and end up with a formidable team, harvesting the Star Beads would be a piece of cake.
He would be able to obtain plenty of Skill Points too.
Unfortunately, the five remaining mercenary corps were killed by the Guardians Of The Night who were not considered part of Jiang Xiao’s team. Hence, he didn’t gain any Skill Points.
Second Last had no intentions to take action and she simply observed quietly while replenishing Star Power and adjusting her breathing.
Jiang Xiao’s heart was bleeding. Those five mercenaries’ Star Power levels are at least higher than mine.
Hence, after killing them, there would definitely be a “Leapfrog” and five Skill Points would definitely be obtained.
25 Skill Points have gone to waste just like that.
The Blessings were cast on the Guardians Of The Nights and the Chinese soldiers. In a short period of time, the mediocre team seemed to have become more energetic.
The sounds of them moaning in pleasure gave Jiang Xiao goosebumps.
Second Last kept her long and narrow eyes fixed on the rejuvenated soldiers before nodding in satisfaction. “Let’s go.”
Her words were clear and simple. She turned around and stepped forward before pulling her messy, black hair back and putting on a black mask. She seemed to slow down for the sake of looking after Jiang Xiao.
Jiang Xiao placed a hand on Second Last’s wrist to give her an Imprint as they moved the corpses away.
Jiang Xiao’s “Imprint” Star Technique was not high-level and could be considered to be in default factory settings. Hence, he had no choice but to remove the Imprint by touching the target that he had imprinted on previously.
Of course, the Imprint would gradually dissipate over time and there was no need for Jiang Xiao to take it back.
After removing the Imprint, the crisp and melodious sound of Bell began to ring.
A ray of white Medical light bounced onto the battlefield and connected to a soldier’s body.
Compared to the recovery status of “Blessing”, “Bell” could recover faster and better.
The ray of medical light bounced and shuttled through the soldiers’ bodies.
Jiang Xiao retreated and tried to match Second Last’s pace while his Bell Star Technique was continuously cast on the soldiers. He was completely unrestrained.
By the time Jiang Xiao’s Star Power was depleted, the white ray of Medical light had already been woven into a net and was connected to the soldiers and the Guardians Of The Night.
Some of the Medical light was still flickering, but some had already stopped shuttling. However, the stardust was still present.
Bell was emitting crisp and melodious sounds that were relaxing and pleasing to the ears.
Under the light emitted from the stardust, everything seemed beautiful.
The soldiers watched intensely.
In the distance, a large figure and two other smaller figures gradually drowned in the snow and wind.
…
“This is the power of a Medical Awakened. They can treat, save lives, heal and soothe one’s spirits,” Second Last said.
Jiang Xiao nodded while absorbing the White Ghoul Star Beads.
Due to the rarity of Medical Awakened, people would definitely be agitated whenever they saw any Medical Awakened.
If a Medical Awakened was competent and possessed some incredible Medical Star Techniques, he would definitely be able to add plenty of value to the team.
Second Last suddenly said in a different tone, “Do you like fighting unarmed, using guns, or military weapons?”
Jiang Xiao had also realized that she seemed to yearn him a little bit more after every battle they fought together.
The issue was that they could be considered teammates or mentor and disciple.
Jiang Xiao was leaning towards the latter. After all, Second Last had clearly stated that abilities and competency could be nurtured.
The problem was, should he suck up to this powerful individual?
Should Jiang Xiao join her team in advance?
After all, it was too dangerous.
He thought about it and felt that the Guardians Of The Night seemed to be quite a good backer.
The Guardians Of The Night and the Wasteland Reclaimers would probably embrace the fact that Jiang Xiao’s Star Techniques were upgradeable and even protect him.
Most importantly, Jiang Xiao had to consider if he could trust Second Last and if their ties were close enough.
The two of them had indeed been in a life-and-death situation together.
Jiang Xiao was interested in joining the Wasteland Reclaimers because his parents used to belong to the team and he felt that he could try and understand what they had experienced.
If his parents had good connections and some close friends or superiors, Jiang Xiao would be able to leverage on that to make the Wasteland Reclaimers protect him.
On the other hand, the Wasteland Reclaimers were in charge of scouring the land and that was enough to satisfy Jiang Xiao’s desire and dreams of exploring the world.
Jiang Xiao was indeed paranoid because he only had one shot at life.
He felt that his upgradeable techniques were too tyrannical.
He needed a backer who was strong and powerful.
Sensing Jiang Xiao’s hesitation, Second Last said, “There’s nothing you life.”
Jiang Xiao racked his brains continuously. Upon hearing her words, he answered, “I like depending on powerful individuals.”
The truth had proved that Jiang Xiao could only be rational when he deliberately tried to.
On top of that, he was mischievous by nature and it was part of him…
