Chapter 2068 – Horse-Face

“Are you sure you’re the one who’s found me?” Lu Yun easily dodged the fatal blow with aplomb. He turned around to regard the nihil powerhouse with a faint smile.

“What?” The powerhouse’s face shifted with surprise and he hastily backed up, but discovered that the air around him had thickened with viscosity. He was like a beast caught in a swamp and sank in further the more he struggled.

The nihil powerhouse was humanoid, but equipped with a horse’s face and hooves.

“I already have the Yama Kings in my kingdom of hell and Infernum soldiers… but if I want to build a reincarnation system, I’ll need Ox-Head and Horse-Face to guide souls to my kingdom, as well as Black and White Impermanence, and judges,” Lu Yun murmured to himself as he stroked his chin. Although he’d given hell dao to the Disordered Sacred Supreme, he still governed the kingdom of hell. [1]

It was easy for Lu Yun to create a reincarnation system since he wielded its power, but a certain degree of pomp and circumstance was required in all matters. Although the god of Mount Tai had created half-baked hells and reincarnation, the formality of his creations elevated them to greater heights than they were worth.

Lu Yun was too lazy to come up with anything original, so borrowing from established mythology was just as well. More importantly was that he knew what his future path should be after the Tome of Life and Death transformed into a golden page.

He needed to build a reincarnation system, establish a world of reincarnation, and transform the entire nothing into that world!

He had to fill nihil with reincarnation!

That was the ultimate meaning behind this power—that all of creation, including the nothing, should be overseen by order and become a paradise for life.

Lu Yun couldn’t accomplish this goal by himself with his current capabilities. He needed helpers to craft a complete reincarnation system, advancing it from a minor cycle to a major cycle, and finally a cycle that spanned the nothing.

Therefore, the horse-faced man in front of him would be his Horse-Face.

“I give you two choices.” Lu Yun kicked the mighty nihil powerhouse to the ground with one gesture and stepped on the man. “One, turn yourself into dust this very moment and doom yourself for eternity. Two, become my subordinate.

“Choose.”

The horse-faced man gaped. He couldn’t understand what was happening. He was one of the strongest in the nothing, someone on par with Corpse! How could Lu Yun, an ant yet to reach nihil, so easily stomp on him like this??

What was going on?!

When did sacred supremes become so strong??

The nihil powerhouse looked blankly at the young man and forgot to reply, given the depths of his shock.

Smack!

Lu Yun delivered a ringing slap, shocking the heavyweight back to his senses.

“Well? Which do you choose?” he frowned.

“This seat is a nihil powerhouse who has reigned supreme for countless eons. How would this seat ever bow to a mere sacred supreme?? Death would be preferable to disgrace!” the man shouted.

“Oh yeah?” Lu Yun waved his hand and summoned a tiny light that glittered on his fingertips—the Tome of Life and Death.

“…I chose the second!” the horse-faced man declared self-righteously. “Greetings to the master!”

Lu Yun: ……

“If master finds it comfortable to step on this humble one like this, then please continue stepping on this lowly one!”

Lu Yun sent a ray of energy into the man and baptized him with the power of reincarnation. A hint of tameness appeared on the horse face. Lu Yun no longer needed to physically write names into the Tome of Life and Death anymore.

He withdrew his foot and nodded. “I don’t care what your name was before, you’re called Horse-Face now.”

“Horse-Face greets the master! May master reign for tens of thousands of years and conquer the Three Thousand!” Horse-Face cried out.

“…I think you should be called Ass-Kisser instead.” Lu Yun blinked. Was this the self-worth that a nihil powerhouse should be displaying?

“Ass-Kisser greets the master! May master reign for tens of thousands of years and conquer the Three Thousand!” Horse-Face fell to his knees again.

Lu Yun rubbed his forehead and understood the situation a bit more once he gave it some thought. Conditions in the nothing were harrowing and danger constantly present. The most dangerous wasn’t even their environment, but the peers around them. There was nothing in the nihil, absolutely nothing to be found, so if one wanted to survive and grow, one had to seize by force.

Thus, these nihil powerhouses would seek to live on at all costs. What was dignity and self-worth good for in the face of survival? Those were follies to be displayed to the weak or others of the same level.

Pursuing dignity in front of someone stronger was to throw one’s life away. Thus, the horse-faced man wasn’t someone who changed with the wind. He was just someone who wanted to live.

“Forget it, your name is still Horse-Face.” Lu Yun rubbed his temples. “Alright, come with me to the Three Thousand.”

Conflict raged in the realm, not just between vicious beasts and human tribes, but also a few cultivation sects under demon god control.

Sanctuary was no longer sanctuary, but a war zone. The fires of battle engulfed the land, dragging mortals and cultivators alike into combat. No one could stay out of it.

Diexi forestalled nihil level beasts from entering sanctuary, but the nihil powerhouses who’d flocked to the demon gods and thought they were on the side of good surged in.

The five sacred palaces joined the fray, their leaders able to employ the strength of nothing when they utilized their sacred palaces. They could meet the enemy toe-to-toe!

But there were too many to contend with. If it wasn’t for the invaders worried about destroying sanctuary if they used too much force, the sacred palaces and Sacred Radiance would’ve fallen long ago.

The Eastern Sacred Supreme held off four nihil powerhouses by himself. He would long be dead if it wasn’t for his sacred palace. As it were, he was drenched in blood and teetered on the edge of collapse.

His four colleagues were no better off and defeat seemed imminent.

Four longswords descended with a formation diagram in the nick of time and landed around the Eastern Sacred Supreme. Sword qi radiated outward and sectioned the four nihil powerhouses attacking him.

A young man with straight brows lifting upward came singing through the void, flicking of his red robes.

“Hahaha, hahaha!! This is nice, I haven’t killed people like this in a long time!” Daoist Yuyu roared with laughter and swigged from the wine gourd at his waist. Thus fortified, he laid around with his swords.

“Ge Long!” Lu Yun was hopping mad at seeing Daoist Yuyu execute four nihil powerhouses with no forewarning.

“Eh? Oh, Lu Yun! You’ve come out of seclusion?” Daoist Yuyu involuntarily shrank in on himself when he saw the young man. Since he’d once been Ge Long, he bore an inexplicable trace of respect toward Lu Yun.

“Just cripple them, don’t kill them!” Lu Yun chuckled ruefully and dismissed his annoyance. “I need helpers, so I want to take these nihil powerhouses if I can. We can kill them if I can’t recruit them.”

1. Ox-Head and Horse-Face are two guardians of the underworld in Chinese mythology. Black and White Impermanence are two deities in charge of escorting the spirits of the dead to the underworld. As their names suggest, they are respectively dressed in black and white.
